Melt inclusion evidence for limestone assimilation, calc-silicate melts, and “magmatic skarn”

چکیده

Abstract Chemical exchange between silicate magmas and carbonate rocks has major implications for igneous fractionation, atmospheric CO2 flux, formation of mineral deposits. However, this process is only partly understood, long-standing questions whether, where, how can be digested by melts remain controversial. We describe evidence pervasive chemical melt rock in a shallow porphyry setting driven limestone assimilation. Melt inclusions endoskarn from the Chating Cu-Au deposit eastern China reveal that calc-silicate assemblage (diopside + andradite ± wollastonite epidote) was molten at time skarn coexisted with vapor as well sulfate- chloride-salt melts. Hence, we argue formed crystallization an immiscible produced assimilation rock, aided presence sulfate other fluxes, which turn promoted desilication intruding magma drove vigorous release.

Viscosity models for silicate melts

Rheology of silicates (melts or super cooled as glasses) is one of the most important fields to mankind, as geological activity largely influences life. In this paper, unifying empirical models for the Non-Newtonian shear viscosity and the extensional viscosity are proposed. The models have only one parameter, the zero shear viscosity (the Newtonian plateau), and are valid for a vide range of c...

Water-melt interaction in hydrous magmatic systems at high temperature and pressure

Experimental data on the structure and properties of melts and fluids relevant to water-melt interaction in hydrous magmatic systems in the Earth's interior have been reviewed. Complex relationships between water solubility in melts and their bulk composition [Al/Si-ratio, metal oxide/(Al + Si) and electron properties of metal cations] explain why water solubility in felsic magmas such as those...

Garnet-fassaite calc-silicate nodule from La soufriire. st. vincent

The mineralogy of an unusual calc-silicate nodule brought to the surfaoe by the 1902 eruption of La Soufriere volcano on St. Vincent (Lesser Antilles arc) is described. It consists of the crystalloblastic mineral assemblage fassaite pyroxene + grandite garnet + wollastonite + anorthite t calcite. The pyroxene is more aluminous (Al2O3 : 19.66 weight percent) than any previously described from te...

Silicate Melt Properties and Volcanic Eruptions

[1] Knowledge about the properties of silicate melts is needed by volcanologists and petrologists to evaluate the dynamics of volcanic eruptions and magmatic processes. These properties include the solubility and diffusivity of volatile components in silicate melts, silicate melt viscosity, and the fragmentation condition. Data and models of each property are reviewed and assessed. For rhyoliti...

Investigation of chemistry and the style of formation of calc-silicate minerals in Aghbolagh skarn zone, north of Oshnavieh, West-Azarbaidjan Province, NW Iran

The Aghbolagh area is located about 21 km north of Oshnavieh city, West-Azarbaidjan Province, NW Iran. This study showed that the Fe-Cu skarn deposit in this area can be separated into two zones, (1) Garnet skarn and (2) Garnet-pyroxene skarn. Based upon the results of electron probe micro-analysis, the garnets are chemically of andradite-grossularite type with dominant andraditic component. Th...
